The range

Before you buy
Is there a flame?
No. The heat comes from a bulb above the wax, so nothing is burning. No flame, no smoke, no soot. The wick stays where it is and never gets lit.
Will it fit the jars I already own?
Almost certainly. The pole slides, so the shade sits about 14.5cm to 28.5cm above the base, and it hangs over the jar rather than around it. Measure the height of your tallest jar with the lid off — if that is under 28cm you are fine.
What does it cost to run?
The bulb is 50W. Four hours on the brightest setting is 0.2 kWh, so multiply that by your own unit rate and you have the figure for your tariff. We are not going to print a number in pence, because your rate is not ours.
How does the timer work?
Press the pod on the cable for two, four, eight or ten hours and the lamp switches itself off at the end of it. It is a timer for convenience, not a reason to go out and leave it on — switch it off at the plug when you leave the room.
What bulb does it take, and how do I change it?
A GU10 50W halogen. Two come in the box, and spares are a 2-pack from us at £9. To change one: switch off at the plug, let the shade and the bulb go completely cold, then a quarter turn out and a quarter turn in.
